the Saxon Math  Home-School Curriculum

Knowing that a sure and deep understanding of mathematics will give your children an advantage in college-level math and science courses, you may decide to have a subject-matter specialist teach your child at some point in this curriculum. For those studying Algebra and farther, I teach:

  • Algebra ½

  • Algebra 1

  • Algebra 2

  • Advanced Math

If you want assistance teaching the preAlgebra courses, I offer tutoring at that level too—and you are welcome to participate in any class as a teaching partner:

  • Math 6/5

  • Math 7/6

  • Math 8/7

For all of the Saxon Math home-school courses, I work in close partnership with you. Your input is very important to me—knowing the specific needs and goals of your children helps me set an appropriate pace for completing each course.

High-School and College Math

I've been working with students in high schools and colleges in all regions of the United States, whether their courses are taught online or in brick-and-mortar classrooms. The names of the courses vary, but they fall into these categories:

  • PreAlgebra

  • Algebra

  • College Algebra

  • Geometry

  • Trigonometry

  • PreCalculus

For all math courses, my goal as a teacher is to help students understand the underlying mathematical concepts while I'm helping them learn the mechanics of working the practice problems.

Math & English for College Entrance Exams

Before applying to college, all students should take the PSAT exam; it could earn them a national scholarship. And the majority of colleges, universities, and conservatories require that applicants submit scores from at least one standardized entrance exam. I work with students to help them do their best on these tests, with great results:

  • PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test)

  • SAT (originally Scholastic Aptitude Test, now simply SAT)

  • SAT Subject Test, Mathematics Level 1

  • SAT Subject Test, Mathematics Level 2

  • ACT (originally American College Testing, now simply ACT)

Because I specialize in both mathematics and English, my students and I are able to explore all areas of these exams in our tutoring sessions.

Math & English for Placement Tests

In addition, I offer help to those of you who want to obtain your high-school diploma equivalency and those who need to take a placement test to qualify for a particular job. And some of you will need to take a test to place you in the appropriate math course when you enter college. Tutoring can make a significant difference in your performance on any of these tests:

  • GED (General Educational Development test for high-school equivalency)

  • ACT Compass placement test

  • College Board ACCUPLACER placement test

  • ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)

It's a blessing to my life to help students of all ages perform to their full potential in their math classes and on standardized exams. I share the joy of each and every one of them when they make advancements in either their academics or their career!
