Subjects: Math | English
the Saxon Math Home-School Curriculum
Knowing that a sure and deep understanding of mathematics will give your children an advantage in college-level math and science courses, you may decide to have a subject-matter specialist teach your child at some point in this curriculum. For those studying Algebra, I teach:
For both of the Saxon Math home-school courses, I work in close partnership with you. Your input is very important to me—knowing the specific needs and goals of your children helps me set an appropriate pace for completing each course.
High-School and College Math
I've been working with students in high schools and colleges in all regions of the United States, whether their courses are taught online or in brick-and-mortar classrooms. The names of the courses vary, but they fall into these categories:
For all math courses, my goal as a teacher is to help students understand the underlying mathematical concepts while I'm helping them learn the mechanics of working the practice problems.
Math & English for College Entrance Exams
Before applying to college, all students should take the PSAT exam; it could earn them a national scholarship. And the majority of colleges, universities, and conservatories require that applicants submit scores from at least one standardized entrance exam. I work with students to help them do their best on these tests, with great results:
PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test)
SAT (originally Scholastic Aptitude Test, now simply SAT)
ACT (originally American College Testing, now simply ACT)
Because I specialize in both mathematics and English, my students and I are able to explore all areas of these exams in our tutoring sessions.
NOTE: The College Board has eliminated individual Subject Tests, such as
Mathematics Levels 1 & 2, as of January 2021.
Math & English for Placement Tests
In addition, I offer help to those of you who need to take a placement test to qualify for a particular job, either civilian or military. And if you're going to college, you will most likely need to take a placement test to start you at the appropriate level of math. Private tutoring can make a significant difference in your performance on any of these tests:
ACCUPLACER placement test
ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)
ACT COMPASS placement test
It's a blessing to my life to help students of all ages perform to their full potential in their math classes and on standardized exams. I share the joy of each and every one of them when they make advancements in either their academics or their career!
